A study about the most popular stuff on BitTorrent has been published on the P2P Research Institute blog
The results are really interesting because they are different from what we can expect. Without any surprise here, the movies rank first with the quarter of all downloads. But we are astonished to see TV shows being only in the 4th place. But i think that they are only based on teh number of torrents and not the volume.
Video games are not in great demand, they only represent 7%, while the other types of softwares are downloaded three times more.
Another big surprise is that files with adult content only represent 4.61% of Torrent's downloads. This contradicts the assumption that often correlate Web and adult content.
At last, music (18.54%) is demonstrating that it has become a regular spot in torrent downloads. Indeed, the Torrent protocol promotes the download of complete album at the expense of single titles found on networks like Emule. We remind you that free BitTorrent music downloads are legally available on Websites like Jamendo as full albums.
That can be explained by the increase of Internet bandwidth and Hard Disk capacity which makes Web users more prone to download big files.
